Madrid, Córdoba & Seville by Train: 6-Day Itinerary

Destination illustration: Córdoba. This image does not show the departure or arrival station.
Madrid → Córdoba → Seville is a practical route if you want a city break with an overnight stop in Andalucía. This six-day, five-night suggestion allocates two nights to Madrid, one to Córdoba and two to Seville. The days below are editorial choices, not confirmed train times; check dated services before booking.
Choose a Córdoba overnight or a same-day stop deliberately
An overnight in Córdoba and a stop of several hours create different luggage and booking needs. For an overnight, arrange accommodation and price both rail legs around check-in. For a same-day visit, check bag storage and the final train you intend to take before reserving timed attractions. Neither plan is created simply by buying a Madrid to Seville ticket that calls at Córdoba.
Compare the Madrid–Córdoba and Córdoba–Seville fares with the conditions you need on each leg. A rail ticket does not include sightseeing admission or a hotel transfer. If adding Málaga or Granada, rework the day-by-day plan and the number of hotel nights rather than treating the new destination as a short extra station stop.
Six days without changing hotels every morning
- Day 1 — Madrid: arrive, check in and keep the afternoon flexible. First Madrid night.
- Day 2 — Madrid: choose a museum or palace visit and allow unplanned time. Second Madrid night.
- Day 3 — Madrid to Córdoba: travel from the station on your ticket, commonly Madrid Puerta de Atocha–Almudena Grandes. Leave bags at your accommodation if agreed, then visit the historic quarter. Córdoba night.
- Day 4 — Córdoba to Seville: keep the morning in Córdoba and choose an onward train that leaves enough time to reach the station. First Seville night.
- Day 5 — Seville: a full day for the Alcázar, Cathedral or neighbourhoods, subject to separate opening and admission checks. Second Seville night.
- Day 6 — departure: leave from Seville or arrange the additional journey your onward plans require.
For seven days and six nights, add one more Seville night. If you must finish in Madrid, reserve the return journey and consider spending the final night there. Granada, Málaga and Ronda need their own transport and accommodation planning; they are not effortless additions to a spare afternoon.
Book the Córdoba stop correctly
Buy Madrid–Córdoba and Córdoba–Seville journeys for the dates you intend to travel. A Madrid–Seville ticket on a train that stops in Córdoba does not give you permission to spend a day there and board any later service. Renfe advertises Córdoba–Seville services including AVE, Avlo and Avant; availability and conditions differ.
A day stop can replace the Córdoba overnight if you prefer fewer hotel changes. First confirm luggage storage, collection hours and the return trip to the station, then choose the onward train. Do not assume station lockers are available or that an old-town sight is beside the platforms.
Allow for the part beyond the train
Córdoba's station and Sevilla Santa Justa require an onward walk or local transfer appropriate to your hotel. Check current bus or taxi options, accessibility and traffic conditions. A city-centre station description does not mean every attraction is a short walk away. See the Seville Santa Justa Station: Trains & Airport Access.
Use the actual timetable, compare baggage limits and leave time for boarding. Separate bookings do not automatically form a protected connection. Our Spain Train Refunds & Changes: Renfe, iryo, OUIGO helps you compare the fare restrictions.
